About Shire Cruisers, Sowerby Bridge

A hire base and boatyard in Sowerby Bridge Wharf, where the Calder & Hebble meets the Rochdale Canal, with about 50 boats on bank, pontoon and breasted moorings.

Shire Cruisers runs its hire fleet and boatyard from Sowerby Bridge Wharf, the restored terminal basin of the Calder & Hebble Navigation at its junction with the Rochdale Canal. The listed warehouses around the basin hold a pub, restaurants and a coffee shop.

About 50 boats are kept on its moorings and hard standing. Some berths are against the bank or a pontoon; others are breasted up alongside other boats, so moorers step across neighbouring boats. The yard is locked at night, metered electricity reaches most moorings, and parking is free for moorers.

Prices are published per metre by the month or quarter, with a 50% supplement for widebeams. The yard was not taking new residential boats when checked, but usually had room for boats that are not lived on.
